Ragusa Ibla

Un quartiere dell'UNESCO

Ragusa Ibla is about 25 kms from Punta Secca.
Part of the Unesco World Heritage site, it lies in the eastern part of the city, on a hill at 385-440 a.s.l. After the quake in 1693, Ragusa Ibla was rebuilt in the late Baroque style with many churches such as The Holy Souls of Purgatory and St. George’s cathedral, built between 1744-1745according to the projects of the famous architect Rosario Gagliardo. There are about fifty churches today and various ‘palazzi’ in the Sicilian Baroque style.
In the eastern part of Ragusa Ibla lies the Hyblean Gardens where many scenes from Il Commissario Montalbano were shot along with Giuseppe Tornatore’s film “L’uomo delle Stelle”.
